Bernette Sew&Go Series Comparison — Sew&Go 1, 3, 5, 7 & 8 Explained

Bernette Sew&Go Series: Beginner Sewing Machines

The Sew&Go line from Bernette is aimed at beginners and occasional sewists. It is an entry-level range, starting with the basic mechanical Sew&Go 1 and moving up to the more capable computerized Sew&Go 8. These are older / entry models relative to newer Bernette series such as the 30 and 05 lines, but they still cover the basics for mending, simple garments, and home projects. Official information is on bernette.com.

A full comparison table between the models is at the bottom of this post.

Bernette Sew&Go 1

Bernette Sew&Go 1

The entry mechanical model is the Bernette Sew&Go 1. It keeps things simple: 10 stitches, a maximum stitch width of 5 mm, and clear dial controls that are easy to learn. Four presser foot soles are included, among them a buttonhole foot and a zipper foot, so you can handle basic garment closures without buying extras immediately. Choose this if you mainly need straight seams, simple zigzag, and mending, and you do not want to pay for stitches or buttons you will ignore. The limitation is the small stitch set; once you want more decorative options or wider stitches, step up the range.

Bernette Sew&Go 3

The Sew&Go 3 sits in the middle of the three mechanical models. You get 19 stitches, including a buttonhole, and a 5 mm maximum stitch width. Stitch selection, thread tension, and stitch length are set with the top wheel and two front knobs. A manual needle threader and thread cutter speed up everyday sewing. Four presser foot soles come as standard. The extra stitches over the Sew&Go 1 help with light garment work and basic decoration, while you still stay on mechanical controls.

Bernette Sew&Go 5

The Sew&Go 5 is still mechanical, with 23 stitches, a buttonhole, and a 5 mm maximum stitch width. Controls match the rest of the mechanical lineup: top wheel and front knobs for stitch selection, tension, and length, plus a manual needle threader and thread cutter. Four presser foot soles are included. Compared with the Sew&Go 3, the larger stitch package is the main reason to step up if you want more utility and decorative options without going computerized.

Bernette Sew&Go 7

The Sew&Go 7 is the first computerized model in the series. It offers 80 stitches, 15 needle positions, and a 7 mm maximum stitch width. Start/stop sewing without the foot pedal helps with small pieces and teaching situations. Needle stop up/down is useful at corners and when pivoting applique. Sliding speed control lets you slow down for tricky fabric or detail work. Seven presser foot soles are included. The jump from mechanical models is mainly about stitch variety and those computerized helpers, not a completely different sewing style.

Bernette Sew&Go 8

The Sew&Go 8 is the top computerized model in this series. Alongside a large stitch set, it includes 1 alphabet, 7 buttonholes, and 1 eyelet stitch. Decorative stitches can use the full 7 mm width when you want. Memory for stitch combinations helps if you repeat borders or motifs. You also get a bright sewing light, sliding speed control, start/stop, and needle stop up/down. Seven presser foot soles come as standard. Choose this when lettering, more buttonhole styles, and saved stitch combinations will actually get used; otherwise a lower Sew&Go or a newer Bernette series may be better value. Check current pricing and availability before buying, as older entry lines are not always stocked everywhere.
