The Bernette 33 is the first of the two mechanical machines in the 30 series of sewing machines from sewing machine brand Bernette. The Bernette 33 model does have a four-step buttonhole, it can sew with a twin needle and it got two spool pins. There is a nice carry handle on the top for when you want to take it class or move it and the machine weighs around fourteen fifteen pounds. It has metalworking parts and on the throat plate it is possible to put a seam gauge and screw that in place. The needle plate also has markings into it to help us with a seam allowance. It does have the removable free arm and a drop feed lever for when you are doing free motion work. The free motion foot is however not included but can be purchased as an stand alone accessory.
The needle threader is not fully automatic but is super simple to use and works really well. It also has a manual thread cutter that works great and is well positioned on the machine. Even though the Bernette 33 is a fairly basic model it still go through a multitude of fabrics and materials even up to a kind of lightweight denim. So if you are just starting out sewing and not sure if you’re going to like it or how much you will use it, the Bernette 33 is not a huge investment but it will get you through loads of different fabrics and have a lot of useful features.

The Bernette 33 is a very simple machine to operate. It has simple dials and everything is labeled clearly. The manual tension dial, stitch selection dial, stitch length dial, and reverse lever are all located on the front. Front loading bobbins are also very simple to use. However, keep in mind that it only has a four-step buttonhole, which is slightly more complicated than a one-step buttonhole. The Bernette 33 model features a good range of kind of beginner stitches as well as a four step button hole. The front of the Bernette 33 has is a stitch diagram with the corresponding letters, so it is very easy to select the stitch with the dials. It has 15 built in stitch patterns and 14 utility stitches, including stretch stitches. You can adjust the length and adjust the width on the stitch with a maximum stitch length of 4 mm and stitch width of 5 mm.
